The aim of the study was to analyze the effect of two types of fistula compression bandages, standard medication versus silver containing medication, with respect to signs of infections measured by macrophotography.

The aim of the clinical trial was the elaboration of an ad hoc management protocol to be used in the Unit at Santa Maria degli Angeli Hospital, Pordenone, for this reason it had been tested, in vitro and in vivo, the clinical efficacy of disinfectants and how they are tolerated by the catheter’s material.

The test on patients, treated with silver ions releasing dressings, showed a significant reduction of redness and crusts in association with no allergic reaction nor clinical signs of infected exit-sites.

This clinical trial showed the efficacy of silver ions releasing dressing Exit-Pad Ag in the treatment and prevention of the exit-site infections (ESI) affecting the Tenckoff peritoneal catheter.

The patient, a 47 year old chronically affected by nasal S. AUREUS, has been repeatedly treated with systemic antibiotics without success, while complete recovery was reached after the local application of the advanced silver releasing dressing Exit-Pad Ag. Moreover, beside a consistent reduction of the costs, the use of advanced dressings improved her mental and physical wellbeing.

The clinical trial made in Gallarate, Milan, aims to evaluate the differences between infections of the ES in people with white skin rather that brown. Patients have been treated with silver ions releasing dressing, which completely solved the infection after 4/6 treatments without dyschromic effects in patients with brown-olive skin.

Moreover, the application of these advanced silver dressings has reduced the managing cost since were used less antibiotics.

The Vascular Access Society is a multidisciplinary Society where nephrologists, surgeons, interventional radiologists, dialysis nurses and vascular and radiological technologists are involved. The main objective of the Society is to keep abreast of the latest scientific developments in vascular access for hemodialysis. Undoubtedly, vascular access is the lifeline for many patients with acute renal failure or end-stage renal disease because their only option to move forward is to allow good access to the blood stream in order to benefit from hemodialysis.

Emodial is taking part to the event.

Event's aim is that all participants should feel at ease in this Congress. The latest technological advances will play a decisive role in the congress so that sessions are as interactive as possible and promote an agile exchange of scientific knowledge.

The congress will take place at the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona (FIRA Montjuic), very close to Palau of Montjuic and Plaça d’Espanya. The Congress venue is very well connected to the rest of the city by public transport and only a few minutes from the “heart” of Barcelona, the “Plaça de Catalunya”.
